Manfred Mann’s Earth Band glided quite easily into the record charts and radio playlists with a very fine offering in 1980 with Chance.
Produced by Manfred and his associate producer Trevor Rabin, Chance highlighted the ever fantastic vocals of Chris Thompson with the solid return of Mick Rodgers on guitar and new drummer Pat King.
In addition to these fantastic musicians, Trevor Rabin, Robbie McIntosh (Pretenders, Paul McCartney) and Geoff Whitehorn (Procol Harum) all chimed in with some very incredible artistry.
Most noted for the big hit ˝Lies (Through The 80’s)˝, Chance offered a more high-tech pop version of MMEB with some very prominent keyboard work derived from their most talented founder and namesake.
Manfred Mann himself wrote five of the nine songs on this project and made sure he nodded once again to his good friend Bruce Springsteen with a hit interpretation of ˝For You.˝
A very enjoyable effort, Chance is a definitely a rewarding experience for the listener.
With this latest 2007 edition, Manfred and the good folks at Creature Music went into the vaults and located four bonus tracks, including the rare track ˝ A Fool I Am˝.
While spending over a year and a half recording this album, Mann and Co. made sure the final result was filled with great hooks and in your face artistry.
Manfred Mann’s Earth Band truly gave the 80’s decade a fantastic album for their worldwide audience to appreciate for a lifetime of memories.
