Willie Nelson’s lonely country croon has always made even the happiest sentiments ring with a touch of sadness. Here, he covers a number of well-known songs and gives each of them his own hard-won wisdom.
˝Do Right Woman, Do Right Man˝ seems an impossible task, but Nelson gets under it and while he can’t steal it from Aretha Franklin, he makes it his own all the same.
Paul Simon’s ˝Bridge over Troubled Water˝ is a stretch and ˝Whiter Shade of Pale˝ is questionable. However, the title track is classic Nelson, as is the somber closer, ˝Party’s Over.˝
