Shakin’ Stevens’s solo career was launched in 1978 and the following decade he was the biggest selling male artist in the UK, registering four number ones, a total of eleven Top 5 and 15 Top Ten hits. It was a far cry from his earlier career when, as frontman for The Sunsets and despite a support slot with The Rolling Stones, he failed to make any chart impact at all. These recordings, done with The Sunsets, highlight the rock and roll style that was to prove vital to his later success. Effectively an excursion through some of the greatest rock and roll songs in history, it is the ideal party album.
